When I was approached by Orange Blossom Events and the Ace Hotel Theatre to collaborate on a styled shoot I was thrilled! The Ace Hotel Theatre is a stunning venue. It is a restored 1920's United Artists movie palace in DTLA that is overflowing with ornate detailing, history and character. Located right next to the Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles it is host to countless concerts throughout the year and is one of the most unique wedding venues I've ever seen!
Our shoot's inspiration was a Peace, Love and Rock N' Roll wedding - giving a nod to the musical nature of the Theatre as well as the Theatre's rebellious founders. It was wonderful to work with such talented Los Angeles creatives. In working together we pushed the boundaries of the wedding industry standards for styled shoots. I love that the feel of this "wedding" is so different than what you typically see in wedding blogs and magazines, yet it is realistic and feasible for couples to achieve the same look at the Ace Hotel!
Not only did this shoot push the concepts of styled shoots it pushed me as a photographer too! Working in low, and unconventional lighting was a fun way to challenge and stretch myself. During the shoot I was given creative control over all the lights in the theatre! It was a such a rush to play with locations, textures, colors and types of light and see my vision come to life! Shooting at the Ace was a photography experience different than any I have had before. It was a rush and an opportunity I hope to have again!
Be sure to check out the fabulous vendors who brought this amazing wedding concept at the Theatre to life!
